Two shows, at 8pm & 10pm.
With a career that spans nearly four decades, master saxophonist Dave Liebman first gain recognition in the 1970s as the saxophone/flautist in both the Elvin Jones and Miles Davis Groups. Since then, he has played on nearly three hundred recordings with over one hundred of them under his leadership. Lieb has consistently placed among the top three in the Downbeat Critics Poll for Soprano Saxophone since 1973; winning first place in both the Downbeat and Jazz Times Critic's Poll in 2011. Also in 2011, Liebman received the National Endowment of Arts Masters of Jazz Award, the highest honor for jazz given by the United States government. The University of New Orleans brings Dave in for a short residency that includes this rare public performance reuniting him with his old musical friends Steve Masakowski on guitar, James Singleton on bass and Johnny Vidacovich on drums. Expect a harmonic convergence.
