Black Mardi Gras Traditions

XAVIER UNIVERSITY is hosting a special program highlighting unique local carnival customs, the NEW ORLEANS BLACK MARDI GRAS TRADITIONS EXTRAVAGANZA.  

The program will feature presentations by representatives of several longtime Carnival groups and practices, including Big Chief Darryl Montana (of the Yellow Pocahontas Mardi Gras Indian Tribe), Clarence Becknell (Zulu Club historian), Dr. Kim Vaz (author of The Baby Dolls), Cinnamon Black (Treme Million Dollar Baby Dolls), Royce Osborn (Skull & Bones Gang member and Producer of the documentary, All On A Mardi Gars Day) and Al “Carnival Time” Johnson (singer of Carnival Time). There will also be a performance by the TBC (To Be Continued) Brass Band. 
 
Admission is free and open to the public.
