Shotgun Cinema presents Let the Fire Burn

DATE
Sun, Feb 9, 2014
TIME
7:00pm - 9:00pm

On May 13, 1985, after years of increasing enmity, Philadelphia police attempted to take control of a townhouse occupied by radical black liberation group MOVE. Their siege turned nightmarish after authorities dropped a bomb on the house, causing a fire that resulted in the destruction of 61 surrounding homes and eleven deaths. Using only found footage, first-time director Jason Osder dramatically intercuts between ’70s documentaries on MOVE, hair-raising eyewitness news coverage, and testimony from the subsequent hearings that tried to untangle what actually happened. Osder’s film skillfully reveals layers of tension, confusion, and conviction that make it impossible to neatly wrap up this unjustly forgotten saga.
