MLK Birthday Party for Children

Guardians Institute, New Orleans Jazz Celebration, New Orleans Musicians Assistance Fund and National Conference of Artists New Orleans Chapter will pay tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The program will include a historical presentation by local Freedom Rider Dodie Smith-Simmons, a Jazz performance, music tribute by Big Chief Brian Nelson, complimentary books for children, and birthday/King Cake.
Attendees will be able to tour the Donald Harrison, Sr.: The Legacy Continues exhibition. The exhibit includes; archival photos, original artworks, ceremonial attire by Big Chief Donald Harrison, Jr. of the Congo Nation, and a Mardi Gras Indian flag featured on HBO’s Tremè Series.
Big Chief Brian will perform an original birthday song to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The event will conclude with a dove release ceremony by Big Chief Clarence Dalcour.
