Lower 9th Ward Notables in conjunction with The Backyard Gardeners Network presents a Book Reading and Youth Icon Program. The program is free and open to all.
We felt a strong need to create books for the children of New Orleans, beginning with the Lower 9th Ward, that would hopefully not only inform, but inspire them to dream big and know that their dreams are attainable. Black History, Our History - Lower 9th Ward Notables is that book.
The Lower 9th Ward Notables featured in the program include:
· Ronald Lewis, curator of The House of Dance and Feathers Museum
· Rev. Fred Luter, Jr., Pastor of Franklin Avenue Baptist Church and first African-American president of the Southern Baptist Convention
· Kalamu ya Salaam, author, poet, and proponent for social change
· Vera Warren-Williams, entrepreneur and owner of The Community Book Center
