Internationally recognized street artists, who are rarely together, are descending on New Orleans in collaboration of a unified mission to encourage the awareness of a revolutionary art-form from their day, graffiti, and its new found place in the 21st century. On November 8 & 9, 2013, Al Diaz and others will pay tribute to the late neo-expressionist and primitive painter, Jean-Michel Basquiat, on the 25th year anniversary of his only visit to New Orleans. Basquiat and Diaz together were known under the pseudonym SAMO for their expressive spray-painted graffiti. New Orleans real estate developer and hotelier Sean Cummings is spearheading the gathering of Basquiat’s colleagues and collaborators from the 80’s graffiti movement along with contemporaries who are carrying the torch for a new generation of this type of expressive art exploding in New Orleans.
