Guitarist/singer-songwriter Alex McMurray has been called "the most talented songwriter in New Orleans" and "the mad hatter of New Orleans guitar." Born in Red Bank, New Jersey, McMurray moved to New Orleans in 1987 to attend Tulane, and was already a fixture on the local music scene by the time he graduated with a degree in philosophy and English. He is also the co-founder of Chaz Fest, an annual spring music festival that he started in his Bywater backyard in 2006.
For this special Dean’s Colloquium, which invites distinguished alumni back to campus to discuss their careers, McMurray will sit down with fellow Tulane alum Gwen Thompkins, host of WWNO's "Music Inside Out," to talk about his life and work and play some of the songs from his impressive catalog.
Free and open to the public, with a reception to follow.
