Orleans Public Education Network’s 4th annual Membership Convening will bring together educators, parents, students and engaged citizens to be the change that New Orleans schools deserve. Through substantive community dialogue and hard data on what works and why, OPEN seeks to expand residents’ awareness of education reform, engage them in the issues, and amplify their voices in the conversation. First up will be a plenary and community discussion on race, equity and excellence in our schools post-Katrina, followed by interactive sessions on an array of education topics like:
-Building a Human Capital Pipeline: Why TFA Alone Won't Do
-Pathways to Graduation and Beyond
-Little School at Risk: Are New Orleans Children Kindergarten-Ready?
-Show Me the Money! Public School Funding
-Restorative Justice: Crisis of the Black Male
Refreshments and child care will be provided, and special musical guests will perform throughout the day, featuring the HOT 8 BRASS BAND.
