St. Joseph's Night 2013

DATE
Tue, Mar 19, 2013
6:00pm - 12:00am

St. Joseph's Night is one of the most special and revered occasions for the New Orleans Mardi Gras Indian community. You can find masked Indians walking, singing, dancing and engaging in mock combat all over town from sunset into the evening. Hotspots for Mardi Gras Indian activity include St. Claude Avenue in the Lower Ninth Ward right at sunset, St. Claude around Marais in the Seventh Ward from sunset onwards, under the Claiborne bridge, 2nd and Dryades and all around Washington Avenue and LaSalle Street from sunset until late in the evening.

Please send us any photos of your 2013 St. Joseph's Night experience at feedback@wwoz.org so we can share them in this year's St. Joseph's Night photo gallery.  We need the photographer's name and the name and tribe of the Mardi Gras Indian(s) in the photo.

To learn more about Mardi Gras Indians, check out the Backstreet Cultural Museum, the House of Dance and Feathers and the Mardi Gras Indian Hall of Fame.
