The House of Blues is hosting a special reception Friday, February 1st that is open to the public to raise funds and awareness to save Big Brothers Big Sisters of New Orleans. The agency, which provides long-term, professionally supported mentoring services to children who face adversity, is challenged financially. Unless corporate, community and individual investors come forward, the nonprofit agency will be forced to close.
Former New Orleans Saint and alumnus Little Brother Darrin Smith is partnering with the local mentoring agency to make a public plea for support. NFL and other friends of Smith and the agency, including Valero Energy Corporation and Target are donating funds to the agency. They are challenging other area businesses, philanthropists and Big Brothers Big Sisters alumni Bigs, Littles, staffers and donors to match their contributions.
