Three American composers will be heard in the Christmas Concert at John Calvin Presbyterian Church on Sunday, December 16 at `11:00 a.m. “Christmas in the Western Worlds” is a cantata collection of ten carols from the western hemisphere, arranged by the famous African/American composer, William Grant Still. The “Gospel Magnificat,” sung in English, is a jazz setting of the Song of Mary by Dr. Robert Ray of St. Louis. And “The Bell Carol” is in a new setting by William R. Memmott, organist and choir director at the church who will be conducting. The choir with soloists will be joined by a professional orchestra.
This charming and challenging program is a unique departure for the musicians of John Calvin Presbyterian Church. Its joy and drive wonderfully establishes the warmth of Christmas in song. All are cordially invited.
