Black Dance in Louisiana – Guardian of a Culture is a book and choreography by Greer E. Mendy. It is an exposition of Louisiana’s current dance practices and reflects on the historical and social factors that have instilled within all of us a collective cultural consciousness unique to Louisiana. The work began in 2005 as a paper entitled, “The Dances of Congo Square” for a dance history class that Greer Mendy was enrolled in at Howard University. Tekrema Dance Theatre interprets the choreography, which will lead the audience in memory, thought, power, joy, and dance. Come Fly With Us! The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival Foundation provides support for this project. For Invitations, please contact TekremaCenter@gmail.com
