The 2016 New Orleans Alternative Comics and Zine Festival

Saturday, November 19, 2016 - 11:00am to Sunday, November 20, 2016 - 5:00pm
We are happy to announce the third New Orleans Comic and Zine Festival at the New Orleans Public Library Main Branch (219 Loyola Ave, New Orleans, LA 70112) on November 19th, 2016 from 11am to 4pm, and November 20th, 2016 from 12am to 4pm. The New Orleans Comics and Zine Festival is a celebration of self-published and DIY comics and literature. NOCAZ showcases homemade literature, comic books, poetry, journalism, and drawings. NOCAZ exists to encourage authors, long-time creators and those who have never felt like artists to share their work and experience. The New Orleans Comic and Zine Festival will feature amateur and professional artists and writers tabling their works for trade and for sale. There will be a series of workshops to run concurrently during the day, as well as performances by dancer and community leader Lucky Lou, and a free lunch on both days. Librarians all over the United States are gathering and sharing zines to share with library patrons. In an increasing world of digital media, publishing houses have become more exclusive and inaccessible. The variety of printed word has become scarcer, and many authors have turned to the digital forms of sharing their work in response. Zine and self-published comic writing struggles against these forces, allowing anyone with a voice to share their printed paper writings directly with their friends and community. Libraries have been noticing this trend, and we are happy the New Orleans Public Library is partnering with us. We are looking forward to seeing the library packed with enthusiastic creators, sharing their experiences and art to benefit our community.
