The week before Satchmo Summerfest (which happens August 5-7), we'll be broadcasting live performances from our studio as Satchmo acts share a taste of what's ahead on the weekend. You can also watch the live video stream of the performances.

On Thursday, August 4, we'll welcome Charmaine Neville into the studio during the morning Traditional Jazz Show. You can hear her sometime around 10a. Charmaine is the daughter of Charles Neville of Neville Brothers fame; busy putting her own stamp on the Neville musical heritage. Neville and her band dish out a spicy mix of the best of New Orleans music, from the nastiest of blues to some V-8-driven R & B. The band is co-led by Charmaine and natty piano wizard Amasa Miller. Charmaine's music career started out with backing up The Neville Brothers. She went on to perform with The Survivors, a band whose alumni list includes Harry Connick Jr. and Bobby McFerrin, and hasn't stopped rolling since.

"All music is good music," Charmaine says. "I try to cover the whole spectrum and do just everything. I don't want to be stagnated and stuck in a rut... People ask, 'Oh, what category would you put your music in?' And I say, 'Good!'

Charmaine Neville will be performing at Satchmo SummerFest's Cornet Chop Suey Stage on Saturday, August 6 from 6:30-7:30p. See the full festival schedule here.
