World Radio Premiere on WWOZ Postponed

Since WWOZ has been off the air due to Hurricane Gustav, the world radio premiere of the Jonathan Freilich radio documentary has been postponed. The listening parties at the Ogden Museum, The Big Top and The Saturn Bar will also be rescheduled.

WWOZ Remembers Larry Panna

A look back on Larry "Guy" Panna, one of the greatest drummers to ever come out of New Orleans. Panna is probably best known as a member of Willie Tee's New Orleans Project, the band that put the funk behind the first two recordings of the Wild Magnolias. Though he sadly passed away last year, his memory lives on.

WWOZ Live from Denver! — Wednesday Aug. 27

WWOZ wraps up four nights of broadcasting and blogging live from Denver during the Democratic National Convention with sister station KUVO. Tonight's broadcast starts at 7 p.m. with a special evening of jazz from the Dazzle nightclub featuring three of Denver's favorite vocalists — Allan Harris, Carla Cook, and Rene Marie.

August Recipe — Pan-Fried Eggplant with Crawfish Sauce

Eggplants
There used to be a restaurant in the French Quarter on Rue Chartres called Rita's. It was an old-style place with the windows opening to the street and lots of dark corners to snuggle into inside. They used to make this dish better than any other place, as their crusty fried eggplant topped with succulent crawfish tails in a creamy sauce was to die for. This dish is also offered at Jazz Fest by another vendor so if you only ever make to town for the festival, make it part of a lunch at the Fairgrounds.
