The 5th Annual New Orleans Fringe Festival hits stages across the city this week with its special and unusual theatrical features. Fringe Fest is where one can catch some of the most innovative and creative theater being performed anywhere in the country today.

phew. Yesterday beat me up. Today, I took a much more chill approach. I played the drums for awhile (I'm not so good, I need a lot of practice) and then I headed out to Bacchanal to meet friends for a girls night with Helen Gillet playing so beautifully under the trees and the lights strung in the branches. The weather was cool enough not to need bug spray!
Today is day 1 of my 30 day commitment to seeing live music everyday. I see a lot of music but I think I can step it up and see at least one live set a day, every day.
Another in our series of Saturday night bedtime stories from the BYO folks who sponsor pop up story-telling events in New Orleans backyards. Their next event is Sunday, October 21st at 1649 N. Robertson (between St. Bernard and Annette Streets. The gate to the backyard opens at 8:00pm and the stories start at 8:30pm. Here's a sample:

In backyards across New Orleans, the 100 members of BYO gather to tell stories that are live, unscripted, and true to the teller. Last Saturday night, we featured a recording of Elizabeth Steeby's story of guns, guts and a woman's rite of passage.
