Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival

Three stages and twenty-one bands are scheduled for the Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival, June 9-10 at the U.S. Mint.  A special guest this year will be D.L. Menard, the eighty year-old Cajun music legend, will make his first appearance at the fest.  C.J. Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band will also be making their first appearance at this event.

Join Brother Tyrone and Everett Eglin along with the Gospel Stars for a live performance  on the Rhythm Room.  They will be performing a set of acoustic music from their forthcoming release "Cue Stick Soul". According to Brother Tyrone the inspiration for this release came from the idea " What if Johnnie Taylor recorded an acoustic album".  10 pm Friday.

In the 1980s, the audience for Louisiana music was a mere handful of hipsters fans.  Music collector types.  Louisiana music wasn't on radio or commercials or movie sound tracks.  There was no "Treme."  The local musicians we take for granted today were barely gigging in town much less touring.

With the 4th of July and Ernie K-Doe Day approaching we want to remember Ernie and Ms. Antoinette on the upcoming anniversary of Ernie's passing into immortality on July 5, 2001 and Ms. Antoinette's passing on Mardi Gras Day February 24, 2009.
