What started out as a simple exercise in recording a marching band rehearsal has evolved into a 12-minute radio documentary. Tune into the New Orleans Music Show, March 23rd (today, as I write) for some history and a sneak preview of what's in store when the 9th Ward Marching Band hits the streets.
The great jazz and second line drummer Herlin Riley, veteran of dozens of recordings playing with the greats, from Ahmad Jamal and Wynton Marsalis to the present-day Kermit Ruffins and more, and rhythm maker for countless live bands including his own, comes to visit me, Raymond on The Morning Set and at The Jazz Crossroads at 8:30 a.m. CST, Friday, February the 11th, 2011.
After two nights of competition here in Memphis, we moove to the semiFinal round tonight. The level of competition is very high with over 200 acts here fro all over the world. New Oleans own Big Daddy O' has advanced to the next round. From tonight's performances will be picked the 8 solo/duo acts the will be in the finals tomorrow night at the Historic Orpheum Theatre.
