Wednesday morning from nine until ten, I will have Scott Brown, author of a book about Father of Stride Piano, James P Johnson on the show and we will feature Johnson's music for all to enjoy.
Tuesday's show will feature two live performances: Theresa Andersson and Matt Lemmler. I will also be interviewing a number of people about books and music and also trying to find time to play some of the latest releases.
This Saturday night after midnight (Sunday morning, April 26th) we'll be joined by the great harmonica player, Benny Maygarden. We'll also talk to Benny about his song; "Gutted" and his amazing story of his family and friends escape from New Orleans after Katrina.
This dramatic story as penned by Benny and his wife Mary Beth:

After airing our recorded interview with Ray Brown Jr. about the two concerts scheduled for this weekend, we were informed that the concerts have been canceled. This is a disappointment for many music lovers and for Mr. Brown too. Ray, we look forward to a visit in the future.
Following is the press release concerning the cancellation:
Marcus Roberts took time from his teaching young musicians at UNO and performing at The Sandbar (Wednesday, April 15th) and Snug Harbor (Thursday, April 16th), to stop by WWOZ and talk about his new CD "New Orleans Meets Harlam, Volume 1".
Vocalist, composer, and arranger Ray Brown, jr. joins Charlie B by telephone from Los Angeles to talk about the special benefit concert taking place at Generations Hall, Saturday, April 25th. The star studded event, "Friends and Family Celebrate Ella's Birthday," is sponsored by the City of New Orleans and WWOZ.
Sometime after 11 PM on Tuesday, April 7, one of New Orleans hardest working and best songwriters will come on to promote his new record, "How To Be A Cannonball." He's famous for such songs as "It's Not the Years; It's the Miles," "When I Make My Money," "Fine Ass Chemise," and a whole series about a guy named Otis.
Just a quick hello to the listeners who noted my missing today's show. As you all know we are all volunteers who do our shows for the love of the music. As such most of us have another life that includes a "real" job. I am fortunate to work for a company with a management team that understand the importance of community radio and especially WWOZ.
Get ready for the third night of Don Cherry! Jazz Lunatique 4/1/09 at midnight will feature an hour of Cherry's recordings with Ornette Coleman and others. It will be the third week in a row we'll blow your mind with Cherry's trumpet playing accompanied by his cohorts Ornette Coleman, Charlie Haden, and unsung New Orleans drummer Ed Blackwell, among many others.
