A lot of people around the radio station tease me about being the foreign language pronunciation patrol, which I don't mind, because learning foreign languages has been among the best journeys of my life. Certainly I couldn't do the shows I do without them.
I hope to be able to present a South African edition of the World Journey this Saturday and feature music that I learned about and picked up while I was there with the WWOZ team that went to the Joy of Jazz Festival in Johannesburg last week. It was the end of a dry winter when we were there, but there were still some flowers in bloom.
George Ingmire and I are in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the Joy of Jazz festival which started today, Thursday, 23 August. We hope to bring you a broadcast from here during my World Journey show this Saturday.
Alski is generously donating his time and effort and a tiny portion of his gi-normous music library to help me present a special show in honor of Jamaica's 50th anniversary of independence. Join us on Saturday for a celebratory Jamaican Journey!
Tune in this Saturday for a special World Journey featuring songs written from or about prison. Dimitri and Dylan and I are putting our heads together for a World Journey like no other!
