Last week, I embarked on playing some Percy Mayfield to celebrate his poetic nature. As is often the case, plans changed, so I only got through a portion of his music. This week I fix that.

Carnival time is a chance for many to exercise unbridled drinking and partaking. People from the "land of last call for alcohol" and locals alike find themselves in cloudy states of mental depravity/bliss.

Yes indeed, I am doing another birthday show. This for Snooks Eaglin born January 21st, 1936 - I will be playing music from as far back as the 1950s (solo, with Sugar Boy Crawford et al) up until his Black Top recordings. Somewhere along the way, I might even dig up a live in-studio performance by Snooks joined by the EOTU - Tain't it the Truth.

Tune into WWOZ 90.7fm or wwoz.org, this Wednesday, January 7th (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) for a show dedicated to the streets and intersections of New Orleans.

Whether we're talking about 2nd and Dryades (where Mardi Gras indians practice at the site of the H&R bar) or Basin Street (formally a border of the Red Light District), New Orleans has always been defined in great part by locale.
