RIP LX!

Alex Chilton died in New Orleans a few days ago. He was from Memphis, which spreads all the way down to New Orleans for musicians. And we all know that New Orleans is a jealous mistress. So New Orleans it was for LX.

He would have been playing at South by Southwest in Austin this week, but never left New Orleans.

Heaven done called another Rock and Roller back home

I'm flying somewhere over Memphis right now, taking advantage of a wireless connection on a flight to Virginia. As plenty of you already know, Alex Chilton, a musician whose "quiet as thunder" impact on the rock and indie music scene is beyond measure, passed away yesterday at the age of 59.

SXSW Day 1- hits the gound running

One thing to realize when you go to sxsw....you are going to miss something. the shear number of bands in town and playing numerous gigs is staggering. Each day is full of sponsored day parties (free w/ rsvp) virtually all over town, featuring bands all day (everybody gets about 45min. to hour sets). As day turns to night sxsw takes over about 78 clubs/venues.

Jungle Boogie

Welcome to the Jungle

Why are there so many songs about the "jungle?" Hundreds of songs from country and western to disco and every style in between. Jungle songs? Imagine oooga boogas, oongowas, monkey and elephant noises and way too many Tarzan yells all put to music.

Thank you

What a wonderful show today. It was fortunate that I had the studio set when Tab Benoit came in late on George's show so we could bring him to you in best form. I really enjoyed engineering that set and can't wait to listen to the recording. Crossroad got about a 15 minute late start but you all came thrrough like the heros that you are 50 new /renewing members on today show, double the goal.
