'5 things to know' is a weekly feature highlighting different parts of the WWOZ world that you may have missed this week, including unique WWOZ programming and video, plus New Orleans events, artists, places, features, and more. For the week ending May 20, 2016:

1) It's Bayou Boogaloo time! This free Midcity festival along Bayou St. John is happening Friday-Sunday with acts that include The Wailers, Irma Thomas, Lowrider Band, George Porter Jr. & His Runnin' Pardners, Buckwheat Zydeco, Lost Bayou Ramblers, CC Adcock & the Lafayette Marquis, Seth Walker, Lynn Drury, and more. Get more information and see the full lineup.

2) Money Wasters Social Aid & Pleasure Club second line this Sunday at 1p! Get the route sheet from ya boy Action Jackson at Takin' It To The Streets.

3) The 5th annual Birdfood Festival is in full swing. The Birdfoot Festival brings dynamic live chamber music to New Orleans each May. Named for the branching footprint of the Mississippi River Delta, Birdfoot has gained an enthusiastic local following and won glowing critical reviews for its fresh approach to presenting chamber music and its “youthful, rule-bending style.” Check out this amazing photo gallery of last year's festival from one of WWOZ's volunteer photographers, Ryan Hodgson-Rigsbee, to catch a taste of this different kind of fest.

4) This week's new music spotlight focused on Davell Crawford and his latest, Piano In The Vaults, Vol. 1, an album full of tributes to the New Orleans piano greats, including James Booker, Buddy Bolden, and Jelly Roll Morton.

5) The 'OZ featured video of the week is an exclusive with the legendary Carol Fran, live from Lafayette's Blue Moon Saloon in August 2014. Fran's distinct voice and piano-playing style mark her celebrated career that spans more than six decades. See her performance of Barrett Strong's 1959 hit "Money" below.

Lagniappe: The savoriness and sweetness of all the Jazz Fest foods are still lingering in our tastebuds... planning to revive them this weekend with a recipe or two from nola.com's 50+ recipes from Jazz Fest.
