Congratulations to all my friends at The French Quarter Fest on this special 30th anniversary celebration!  This year the largest free music festival in the South features 271 performers on 21 stages, as well as, par normal, the world’s largest jazz brunch in Jackson Square.

Mulgrew Miller to Visit "Jazz from the Market"

The brilliant jazz pianist Mulgrew Miller will visit WWOZ this Thursday (April 4th) just after 5:00 p.m. before heading over to Snug Harbor for his special shows at 8 and 10.

 

On Wednesday, the night before, he will be playing with an ensemble of University of New Orleans students at Jazz at the Sandbar (Cove) starting at 7 p.m.

When Robert Johnson recorded his song “Crossroad Blues”, he was not singing about some nondescript intersection, he was singing about a very specific place in the flat delta plain between the Yazoo and Mississippi Rivers. A place known by all and visited by only a very few.
