'5 things to know' is a weekly feature highlighting different parts of the WWOZ world that you may have missed this week, including unique WWOZ programming and video, plus New Orleans events, artists, releases, places, features, and more. For the week ending April 1, 2016:

1. Two exciting events are happening this Sunday, starting at 1p: Revolution Second Line Parade and Super Sunday on the Bayou. More info on both from ya boy Action Jackson at Takin' It To The Streets.

2. It's festival season! Two great free ones are coming in the next week: Freret Street Festival happens on Saturday and French Quarter Fest returns April 7-10.

3. Our live broadcast schedule is filling up with awesome events around New Orleans. Tonight (Friday, April 1), we'll be live from Backroom at Buffa's with an hour of Camile Baudoin and Papa Mali's set. On Wednesday, April 6, we'll be video streaming (not on-air) from the annual Bill Russell Lecture at the Historic New Orleans Collection. This year’s program, “100 years of New Orleans String Bands (1849–1949),” features commentary from jazz guitarist, banjoist, and music historian Seva Venet and performances from the Storyville Stringband of New Orleans. And on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (April 8-10), we're coming to you live from the Esplanade in the Shade stage at French Quarter Fest! We've also got a Brass Pass pick-up spot at the Louisiana Music Factory during French Quarter Fest.

4. DJ Nita K welcomed another group of young New Orleans musicians in for a new episode of Cuttin' Class on Thursday, March 31. This month's featured brass band was from Einstein Charter Middle School in New Orleans East under the direction of the legendary Herman Jones and his student teacher, Doyle Cooper. If you missed it, you can listen to the show on our 2-week archives.

5. This week's new music spotlight focused on master jazz drummer Herlin Riley's latest, New Direction. See 'Tutti Ma Was A Big FIne Thing' from the new album below as he performed it live at WWOZ during our Spring Pledge Party just a few weeks ago.
