WWOZ has partnered with WWL-TV to recognize the work of the city's Guardians of the Groove with a monthly television series of profiles and interviews.

Whether they're musicians, business owners or community leaders, Guardians of the Groove play a significant role in preserving and enhancing the culture of New Orleans. They share a dedication to their craft and a belief in the importance of cultural expression. Profiled Guardians combine a respect for those who came before them with hard and essential work to pass the tradition and culture on to its future champions.

The first segment aired on Wednesday, September 18, and features Benny Jones, Sr. of the Treme Brass Band, interviewed by WWOZ show host Bill DeTurk on location at the Candlelight Lounge.
