Two of the best places to see Mardi Gras Indians on Fat Tuesday are at the corner of 2nd and Dryades Streets uptown and at the Backstreet Cultural Museum at 1116 Henriette Delille St. in Treme. Lots of tribes gather at both of these spots throughout the day.
Here's a list of specific places where Indians will be stepping out. Thanks a lot to my brother Jon for compiling this list:
-Big Chief Alfred Doucet will be unveiling his "Suit of the Century" at the 7th Ward Neighborhood Center, 2430 Franklin St.
-Big Chief Victor Harris and the Fi-Yi-Yi Indians will be under the Claiborne Bridge.
-Big Chief Monk Boudreaux and the Golden Eagles will be stepping out at Valence and Magnolia Steets.
-Other Indians will be stepping out at Bayou St. John at Orleans Ave, the corner of Washington and LaSalle Streets, the corner of Orleans and N. Claiborne Avenues, and the corner of N. Claiborne and St. Bernard Avenues.
Its difficult to say specific times when Indians will be stepping out but its usually early in the morning. Please feel free to add to this list or make any corrections. Enjoy and happy Mardi Gras!
