The first ever Treme/7th Ward Arts & Culture Festival is happening this Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29. The festival kicks off on Friday with tours of Treme and the 7th Ward, panel discussions, and the Babydoll Bar Crawl through ten different libations spots. Tickets are required for these kickoff events but the rest of the festival is free to attend.
The Slidell Jazz & Blues Festival returns this Saturday, May 28, with a lineup that includes Amanda Shaw, Michael "Soulman" Baptiste & the Real Soul Band, Big Al & the Heavyweights, New Suit Band, Swingaroux Big Band, Don Thanars & Third Coast, Greg Barnhill, Ronnie Kole, and The Big E Brass Band.
Honey Island Swamp Band released their latest album, Demolition Day, at the same time as their appearance at Jazz Fest on April 29. This album marks the 10-year anniversary of the Honey Island Swamp Band, which formed in San Francisco, CA in 2006, via New Orleans, after Hurricane Katrina displaced the founding members.
