Saxophonist Brent Rose released his new album, The Unexpected Gift, last month. The ten-track release runs the gamut from contemporary to free jazz, with a couple of welcome stops along the way to play out some more traditional tunes.
The Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival happens this weekend in Lafayette Square. At last year's event, Bobby Rush celebrated his 81st birthday with a "Hoochie Coochie Man" medley. The Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival happens this weekend in Lafayette Square. At last year's event, WWOZ's Marc Stone paid tribute to his mentor Eddie Bo by covering the 1960 cut "Every Dog Got His Day."
The New Orleans Film Festival runs through October 22 in venues throughout the city. Over the years the festival has provided an opportunity for filmmakers to premiere their latest works including full-length features, shorts, documentaries and animation, as well as music videos.
