November's "Gem Sessions" featured artist: Jamison Ross & JoyRide

Drummer Jamison Ross, fresh off a major tour with Jon Batiste and Stay Human, will make his bandleader debut in New Orleans, the place where the Jacksonville, Florida native calls home, and just a couple of months before he's slated to release his debut CD for Concord Jazz in January 2014. The winner of the prestigious 2012 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, Ross learned to play drums in his grandfather's church, and has since performed with music legends like Billy Childs, Wycliffe Gordon, Ellis Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, Marcus Roberts, and many others. After being selected for the Betty Carter Jazz Ahead Residency Program at the Kennedy Center in 2009, he was asked to join Grammy-winning songwriter and vocalist Carmen Lundy’s band. In 2007, Ross was featured heavily in Chops, an award winning documentary about his high school jazz band's preparation and competition in the Essentially Ellington Festival, held and judged by Jazz at Lincoln Center and its artistic director Wynton Marsalis.
