Bruce 'Sunpie' Barnes will perform at Downriver Fest on Saturday

1) Busy weekend! The fourth annual Downriver Festival will be held Saturday, September 10 at the Old U.S. Mint and French Market, featuring lectures, live music, a photography workshop, walking tours, and culinary demonstrations that celebrate all aspects of the Mississippi River’s influences. This year’s theme is "Oysters and the Future of Our Coast." There'll be free live music from Honey Island Swamp Band, Bruce 'Sunpie' Barnes & the Louisiana Sunspots, the National Park Service Centennial Band, and more. Saturday night at the Howlin' Wolf is a big flood relief benefit concert, "From NOLA With Love," featuring Leo Nocentelli, Johnny Vidacovich, King James & the Special Men, and many more. On Friday night, DJ Soul Sister will celebrate her birthday with a show at Tipitina's featuring the Chuck Brown Band.

2) A number of fall concert series are rolling across New Orleans. Jazz in the Park will host Corey Henry & the Treme Funktet and Erica Falls on Thursday, September 15 4-8p. The same night, Ogden After Hours presents The Trad Stars performing the music of Jelly Roll Morton from 6-8p.

3) This week's new music spotlight lands on the Lower 9th Ward's Pat Reedy & the Longtime Goners' Highway Bound. A deep country twang punctuate tales of love, hardship and, most of all, the road.

4) Young Men Olympians Anniversary Parade steps out this Sunday at 1p! Get the route sheet from WWOZ's Takin' It To The Streets. In related news, check out Chelsea Brasted's recent article about the "second line industry" in New Orleans.
