When I transplanted to New Orleans in 2004, I found myself landing in one conversation after another with some bizarre and perfect local story-teller. Since I always walked away wishing I had recorded it, I started carrying a tiny digital voice recorder to collect a personal archive. Many of these clips may be heard at www.opensoundneworleans.com, a collaborative sound-map of this city.
Even though I spend most of my time now working in the E.R. at University Hospital and studying for nursing school, the story-tellers still manage to find me. I’m excited and grateful for the chance to share some of these voices on WWOZ Street Talk. I believe that community radio is one of this city's great treasures.
