Pete Fountain's funeral, free live weekend music, Jazz in the Park lineup announcement + more

1) Pete Fountain's funeral was held at St. Louis Cathedral on Wednesday. A planned second line procession followed services and paraders celebrated Fountain's life all the way up Royal Street. The procession ended at Hotel Monteleone, where the marching band played on as paraders danced in place. WWOZ's video team captured the emotional scene in the French Quarter. Read more about the services, eulogies, and beautiful send-off for one of New Orleans' finest musicians in this article from Keith Spera in the New Orleans Advocate.

2) The Jazz & Heritage Foundation will host a free "Hot Summer Salsa!" concert on Saturday with performances from Muevelo featuring Margie Perez, OTRA, and AsheSon. The concert starts at 9p and is free to attend at the Jazz & Heritage Center (1225 N. Rampart). Tipitina's free summer concert series is rolling on with a performance from Johnny Sketch & The Dirty Notes and Waterseed on Friday, August 19. Music starts at 10p.

3) Jazz in the Park at Armstrong Park announced their Fall 2016 schedule. The 10th season of this free concert series will kick off Thursday, September 8 with performances from Nigel Hall and Kid Merv. Other performers this September include Erica Falls, Corey Henry, Joe Krown, and Russell Baptiste & Friends featuring The Wild Tchoupitoulas. See the full schedule at Jazz in the Park's Facebook page.

4) This week's new music spotlight focuses on Paul Sanchez and his latest album, Heart Renovations, a follow-up to his 1992 release Jet Black and Jealous. "Jet Black and Jealous was a man in his twenties banging on his guitar and singing about finding and losing love. Heart Renovations is a man in his fifties, pausing to reflect on all of the same questions," says Sanchez.

5) The WWOZ video team released a wealth of new material this week! Check out these highlights from White Linen Night (August 6) and National Underwear Day Parade in New Orleans (August 5). Our featured video of the week is Ivan Neville's Tribute to Mardi Gras Indians at Congo Square Rhythms Fest in March. He performs 'Big Chief' alongside Big Chief Roderick Sylvas of The Wild Tchoupitoulas, Big Chief Monk Boudreaux of the Golden Eagles, and Big Chief Juan Pardo of the Golden Comanches, and discussses his personal connections to the Indian culture with host Cole Williams. Happy birthday, Ivan (August 19)!
